A model for sustainability within the hospitality industry, Hotel Marcel is committed to doing what it can to tackle the global climate crisis. As a 100% electric hotel that operates fossil-fuel free, Hotel Marcel has created a new standard for environmentally friendly hotel operations.
Hotel Marcel is proud to be LEED Platinum-certified and is anticipated to be the nation's first Passive House-certified hotel, as well as the nation's first Net Zero hotel by the end of 2025.

Designed to minimize carbon emissions, Hotel Marcel operates completely independent of fossil fuels.

Electric Heating and Cooling
- Air Source Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) heat pumps for heating and cooling
- Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) to provide filtered fresh air
Electric Hot Water Heating
- Air Source Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) heat pumps for producing hot water
Electric Kitchen
- Induction cooking to avoid any need for fossil fuels
- Recirculating hood minimizes the need to use energy for conditioning make-up air
Electric Laundry
- Onsite laundry eliminates the need to transport linens and use of commercial laundries all-together
- All-electric laundry minimizes hot water use
- Electric washing machines minimize energy needed for drying linens
Elevator Design
- Kone Elevators generate power for the rest of the building when braking
Electric Hotel Shuttle
- Converted a Dodge Ram ProMaster 2500 airport shuttle to a completely electric vehicle for guest usage
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
- Twelve 250 kw Level 3 electric vehicle chargers for Teslas
- Twelve 7.2 kw Level 2 electric vehicle chargers

Solar Panels
- Over 1,000 solar panels on the hotel's rooftop and parking lot canopies produce over 575,000 kwhs annually
- Hotel Marcel plans to add additional solar canopies in nearby locations
Battery
- Batteries are Lithium-Ion and provide 1.5 megawatt hour of electricity storage (equals 1,500 kwh)
Microgrid
- Grid-forming inverter located in each of the battery rooms allows for off-the-grid operation and emergency power
- Allows the building to be powered by the grid, solar, and batteries
Lighting
- Power-over-Ethernet (POE) DC low voltage system provides power and control of all lighting and shades in the hotel
- POE system reduces lighting energy by over 30%

- Composts all food waste from the restaurant and catering
- Procures locally sourced ingredients and sustainably produced offerings
- Uses induction banquet equipment with no sterno usage
- Uses linenless tables to save on energy consumption from laundry
Recyclable Products
- No single use plastics are used for events, dining, and guest room bathroom amenities
Environmentally-Friendly
- Uses environmentally-friendly cleaning products
- Linens and towels are washed on request rather than nightly

LEED Platinum Certification
- One of only 10 hotels in the US to be certified LEED Platinum under the US Green Building Council's LEED standards
- Earned points in a number of categories, including water efficiency, energy efficiency, and integrated design process
Passive House Certification
- Will be the first hotel in the US certified to Passive House standards
- Design reduces energy use by as much as 80%
Net-Zero Certification (pending)
- Will be the nation's first net-zero hotel for the elimination of fossil fuel usage
